Lil Boosie may have introduced “Zoom” into America’s slang vocabulary but Mazda has been promoting “Zoom Zoom” as their catch phrase for many moons. However with the exception of the CX-9 the Japanese automaker’s vehicles have not exactly been synonymous with fun and cool for quite some time as far as the urban community is concerned.
The latest vehicle in their fleet, the 2009 Mazda6 changes all of that. This new sporty sedan, which went on sale this month, is a testament to affordable luxury. The problems owners complained about with previous models have been addressed. The new and improved Mazda6 has a shorter turning radius, improved AC performance and far less brake dust and squealing.
But where the 6 truly stands out is the completely redesigned body. From the RX-8 styled fender to the LED taillamps, the smooth curves and sharp edges will definitely make this mid-sized beauty stand out from its competitors.
The interior is the best of any American sold vehicle Mazda has ever produced. The blacked out instrument panel and the bright metallic markings give a very luxurious feel. However where the 6 wins is the comfort of the captain’s chair and the surprisingly roomy backseat and expansive trunk space.
One drawback is the 2009 Mazda6 drives a little less sporty than the last couple versions, but for all the improvements it’s a small price to pay. MSRP ranges from $18,550-$28,260 depending on the model and there are 3 option packages available.
