Eminem Versus Nas in VIBE Best Rapper Alive Tourney

Jay-Z versus Kanye West and other exciting match ups in tourney's elite eight

Talk about an Elite Eight. Last week’s 78,000 votes have determined the final eight rappers in VIBE’s Best Rapper Alive tournament, and for true rap fans, this week of competition should be the most challenging.

In the Notorious B.I.G. bracket, it’s big brother versus little brother as Jay-Z squares off against Kanye West. Both Jay-Z and Kanye went up against formidable MC’s from their hometowns. Jay beat out fellow Brooklynite Fabolous, 80 percent to Fab’s 20 percent. Kanye, who faced off against fellow CRS member Lupe, beat the skateboard riding MC, 61 percent to 39 percent.

Lil Wayne received 60 percent of the votes over Scarface’s 40 percent in the Pimp C bracket, thus proving many voters were apt to give the nod to a living legend over a current-day popular MC. Nonetheless, Wayne will be going against Ludacris, who beat out T.I., 58 percent to 42 percent.

The backpack MC set took an L in the Big Punisher bracket as Common lost to Andre 3000. Three Stacks is moving on to face the Game, who beat out his fellow West Coast MC, Snoop Dogg by a 10 percent margin.

But the most exciting match up is taking place in the 2Pac bracket. After beating out fellow Queens rapper 50 Cent, by a surprisingly wide margin of 61 percent to 39 percent, Nas will take on Eminem, who slaughtered Ghostface Killah in Round 3 with 84 percent of the vote. Nas, who is the number two seed to Eminem’s number one seed, will undoubtedly be the match up to watch.

Winners of these match ups move on to the tournament’s final four. Be sure to vote all this week, and check back next week to see who has moved on in VIBE’s Best Rapper Alive tournament.

I gotta admit it ... great match up! im talking from a nas fans point of view and an eminem fans point of view.

Nas has been in the game wayyyy longer than eminem has, which is a clear advantage, he's had more time 2 put out albums n do collaborations with artists from 20 years ago up until now. I'd day nas is definitely in the top 5 best ever rappers, dead or alive! his lyrical ability is sick, he'll spit rhymes for fun n still make you listen. The political poet, hes unique. AND he's still going, one more thing- Nastradaumus and I Am were top quality albums you chicken-heads, listen dont just skip through the tracks ..... listen!

Eminem on the other hand has done so much in such a short time ... 5 albums, 2 D12 albums, countless unreleased material which is dope, to many collabos, and with some of the best, and manages 2 produce all day long. With another album on the way ... people might put him up there with the best like he deserves, if it should be any good. But like Eminem it will be, he'll rhyme a word that shouldn't rhyme, and whats wrong with making silly songs here n there ? it shows his diversity and lyrical talent. And his freestyling alone should make him the best, a few more years and albums under his belt, he should be recognized as a legend surely ? what hasnt he done ? to break it down, as he said on the re-up ...

And that very well may be the same reason they don't say me
when they speak on hip-hop legends which has amazed me
Cause I thought the formula was to hit mainstream
and make it big-big-big-big-b-baby!

My Vote ... Eminem

Actually MMLP was considered a classic album.Quite a few people I know consider them classic. I still listen to it to this very day.

4.

EmanEJT says:

itsprolyDEAD says:

IF LIL WAYNE WINS THIS I WILL DELETE EVERY WEEZY SONG ON MY IPOD, AND I BE I WON'T MISS EM, because honestly I never liked him too much but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt cuz everyone talked him up so much, but on the real, he doesn't deserve any space on a real hiphop heads jam

7.

itsprolyDEAD says:

Nasir Jones still holds the thrown, NAS, best rapper alive. Sucks that so many mainstram record labels and chain stores were too p**** to carry the new album by it's real name but it's no B.I.G cuz everyone knows what its called, even if he Nas was forced to pull it. I think his response to this, giving it no name at all, was much better than comin up with a new name for the album.

***On another note Nas responds to 50 cents NEVERENDING bull**it on "Queens Get the Money". The **it is epic. The polar opposite of the blatant, intense "f**k you" that Ether was, "Queens Get the Money" is just as hard as Ether but so ill that I doubt 50 is even smart enough to figure out that he' s been shut permanantly shut down by Esco :

"Take 27 emcees, put them in a line and they out of alignment
My a**ignments since he said retirement
Hiding behind 8 mile and The Chronic
Get's rich but dies rhymin, this is high science
Now add 23 more for queens to be more, I'm over they heads
Like a bulimic on a sea-saw
Now that's 50 porch monkeys ate up at the same time"

"evry magazine say that MMLP and SSLP a classics
are you retarded???"

do your research on real classic album. he has tons of great verses. definitely. no classic albums. no one will confuse any of eminems albums with ready to die, aqemini, cuban linx, illmatic or reasonable doubt. not to diss em. i think he is dope. he just does not have ANY albums that i could listen to entirely more than once (TRY IT).

well, the only two credible magazines that can give out true hip hop classic awards are "the source" and "xxl". sorry dude, blender and rolling stone magazine does not count.

eminem does not have classic hip hop albums. he has tons of great verses. definitely. no classic albums.

16.

OSX2k7 says:

Besides "Big Weenie" and "Just Lose It", Those are pretty solid sounds. Em is one of the only rappers I know that can be sweet serious and funny at the same time. Plus did you ever metion songs like "Marshall Mathers", "Rock Bottom", "Soldier"m and "Till' I Collapse, to name a few. All those songs are solid.

Now I will say one thing,Whoever wins this better win this damn tourney...

balaramesh says:

nas is waaaay better than eminem. it's not even close.

eminem has waaay too many horrible songs in his catalog. in addition, he has yet to drop a CLASSIC HIP HOP album.

is eminem a great rapper and one of the best to do it. by far. he even admits that nas is better than him on one of his songs. i'll find the name of it.

@travis m-c,

you are correct, eminem, does stand out and speak his mind. what you did NOT mention is that other rappers do NOT have the same outlet to speak to the mainstream with airplay like eminem without the feds and police tracking them down (think dead prez, public ememy, nwa ect). you must have been sleep the past few months or did not hear the media threats to shut down the label def jam over nas' s album title name

22.

travis-m-c says:

Eminem is the best rapper, speaks his mind unlike some of these fake rappers out there! Just wish others were like him and had a meaning too there music. Like Tupac but he is long gone one of the best in the game but had to fall so shortly! RIP Tupac!!!

23.

escova says:

easily? get the fu ck outta here

illmatic>eminems career

24.

CREASY77 says:

I say Nas is the better overall rapper. Respect to Eminem though. But I gotta go with Nas

25.

boliver36 says:

Though I love Eminem, I have to go with Nas. Nas has been out there and Eminem has been a hermit. Also, everyone is calling Untitled a classic LP.

26.

arorey says:

Eminem over Nas easily.
