Aimed directly at the social networking set, the IM9 has over 4 hours of battery life and a 8.9 inch glossy LED display yet it weighs a mere 2.28 lbs. Granted, you can access most sites via any smartphone or PDA on the market but the security is not the same and typing long posts or messages on a glorified cell phone is not fun. The IM9 comes standard with a 3-in-1 card reader, mini wireless card, 2 USB ports and a Kensington lock. The base model which goes for $350 operates on the Mini OS powered by Ubuntu (coming soon) and comes with 2GB of free remote storage space (expandable to 25GB) via box.net.
If Mini OS is not your cup of tea you may want to spend the extra $50-$100 for a larger hard drive version that comes standard with Genuine Windows XP Home Edition. The IM9 is available in Obsidian Black or Alpine White and is available on the company’s website as of today. There are a few mini-PC’s on the market to choose from, but this one is functional and pretty fly too.
