Apple press conferences have gone from being just instant fodder for tech heads to being Christmas for the average consumer with a little bit of disposable income. Today Apple head honcho Steve Jobs began the press conference with a quote flashing behind him that read “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated” playing off of Bloomberg News premature release of his obituary.
As always the anticipation surrounded the announcement of price cuts and new products and Jobs and Apple delivered. Amongst the announcements was the new iPod nano which is available now in 9 different colors. The new fourth generation model features a curved aluminum and glass enclosure and works on the just announced iTunes 8 Genius software.
A new iPod Touch was also announced which is also available immediately. Smaller and lighter than the original it features a 3.5-inch widescreen glass display, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi wireless networking, integrated volume control buttons, a built-in speaker, a built-in accelerometer and other advanced sensors, and a multi-touch sensor. The new touch also comes with the Nike + iPod feature which was previously only available with the nano. The 8GB model retails for $229, 23% cheaper than the original.
