"What us gon' do?" This is a phrase my mother has spoken to me so many times over the years. Usually it has something to with ever-worsening plight of the black community. But today its definitely about the bailout. And for real what are we supposed to do? Vote?
That's what I've been telling kids across the nation. But for whom do you cast said vote when both candidates are pro $700 Billion Bailout--a plan "masterminded" by the Bush administration. Who's for change now?
Look, my vote hasn't changed. But dude has got to take a stand. McCain is blaming him and the democratic party for the bill not passing anyway. Truth be told, more Democrats including Sen. Obama went to bat for the bill than Republicans. But isn't the bill about giving money back to big businesses who effed up in the first place? And isn't the senator from Illinois supposed to be against throwing money up the economic ladder?
On to the next issue--my man kinda got slammed during last week's debate. I mean Johnny by no means served him, but Barack not knocking him "out of the box" deeply disappointed me. Does he need to take some lessons in cunning from the king career-killer Curtis Jackson? Or pick up some battle tactics from freestyle champion Supernatural or a Smack DVD? MAN, come on! I refuse to believe that we have an African American presidential nominee with more than a chance in hell. But still the most revolutionary thing said by a black man in my lifetime is "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
I'm gonna end it in the immortal words of Q-Tip and many a street corner hustler: "Scared money don't make none." Translation: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." He's still got my vote but DAMN, can we put this thing to be already?
Oh shoot I almost forgot. Just heard a story about a girl I know campaigning and throwing fundraisers for McCain. Avid hiphop fan constantly in the clubs. Twenty-two years old. White. But still I'm shocked anyone our age is voting McCain...and not just voting, but actively supporting. We got work to do. That's it.
Oh yeah the records out, Murs For President in stores NOW!!! This was written during one of the most hectic periods of my life forgive me if its not put together.
