Philadelphia 76ers new PF Elton Brand breaks down five things he needs from his floor general
1. Good vision: “[I need] someone who’s going to get [me] four to eight easy points every game. John Stockton and Karl Malone, Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire, Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer—four to eight of the points big men score are due to their point guards finding them for layups.”
2. Defense: “So that I don’t have to help out! If you have a guard that can keep [the opponent] out of the lane, that makes my job easier. Keeps me out of foul trouble.”
3. A jumpshot: “Because I get a lot of double teams. [My point guard] Andre Miller is a deadly midrange shooter. If he gets in his spot, he’s going to knock it down.”
4. Tempo control: “You have to know when to push [the ball], and when to slow down and give it to the big fella.”
5. Unselfishness: “My job is to get buckets, get rebounds, [and] get blocks. [Your] job is to get everybody involved and create.”
