Yo, they talking about the best rapper ALIVE. Not the best rapper ever. I think Eminem is good enough to be known as the best rapper alive. I think some other artists come really close, like Lupe Fiasco, Ludacris, The game or Andre 3000, or others. But Em is mad consistent with his thing. Besides, even if Pac or Biggie was still around, times change. They would have been replaced by someone else. It's just the way it goes.

ODT3, record sales are eveeeeeerrrryyyyything! Over 85 million records sold is a huuuuugeee success especially since it is soooo hard to sell records these days. He came in at the time when MP3, Napster, Limewire, and all those Free Music stuff came out yet he was able to sell over 85 million records...THAT DOESNT EVEN INCLUDE BOOTLEGGED CD'S....If people voted on him as the best rapper, he is the best. Name one rapper near his skills...Other than that, I think Jay-z, Nas, T.I., The Game, and Nas are also Honorable Mentions especially for keeping Hip Hop alive....

But didnt Eminem help all of these rappers produce a song? Most notable famous one that Eminem produced was Nas's song, "The Cross"

anyhow, i hope that there some folks that can get my point. em is a very good lyricist. but imo, he is no better than folks like royce, black thought ect that are just as talented lyrically but are unknown to most of the mainstream. to say he is the best would be disrespectful to a ton of other rappers that makes music as good if not better than him. i'd say if this were a 100 meter dash, due to his credentials and his privileges he would start out at the 20 meter mark and look back at everyone else. this by no means is to disrespect or discredit the dude but please acknowledge that he does carry an advantage over everyone else. he can make any type of music whenever he wants and it will get pushed throughout the mainstream media.

em is a great lyricist. without question. lyrically, he is very good. however, em gets a mainstream push unseen to other rappers. em gets played on radio and other media outlets REGARDLESS the song. in contrast, mainstream media outlets will not play other rappers unless it's a commercial song( sex, drugs, and violence). em has the flexibility that no other rapper has on a major label. he can make or release any material without his label putting it on the backburner for not being marketable or easily digestable. em sold millions of rappers for being a great white rapper. not because he was the best. that amoungst other reasons why the source magazine hated on the dude so much. is he great? yes ! is he 500 times better than everyone else? no! even he admits and acknowledges the reasons for his success. he even had a song regarding the issues above "white america". with that said, i agree that em is definitely dope but he gets the extra push that he would not have gotten if he were say ..... royce 5'9 or crooked i amoungst countless other rappers. if it were not for mixtapes, we would not here the music that most rappers really want to make instead of their albums that were structured by their records labels. imo, none of em's records are classics. granted, most of them are better than most of the "hot" records out now. however, i would not put one of his records up with "illmatic" or "reasonable doubt". let alone "american gangster" or "untitled".

overall, this entire bracket was COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL to the artform of hip hop. so many talented rappers were not listed and most importantly, too many rappers on here that by no means even deserve to be considered (missy, webbie, soulja thing). realistically, do you think many if any of the rappers above can go line for line or concept for concept with say....... redman? very doubtful.

i think most people say that since someone is their favorite rappers that means they are the best. for me, my favorite rappers are talib and styles p. i would not say that either one would be the best. nor, would i put say lil wayne or ti over them because they are more popular and have more commercial success. i can remember at a time when both big and pac was alive. i think it was maybe sway of mtv asked tupac who was the best rapper out and he quickly said rass kass. yes, rass kass. however, i bet most of you people have no clue about the dude.

to be the best, you have to put out the best albums. not just commercially but creatively and artistically.

i guess that i would agree with what em said above and what nas's had said countless times that their was not a "best rapper". if i had to pick anyone i would pick jay. the only rappers even that ever could consistently have me in awe of them lyrically was big pun, canibus and andre3000.

bap3221, 2Pac completed 5 solo albums while alive, not to mention his non-solo work and posthumous releases. Biggie released 2 albums, and did work with Junior Mafia and others. Their talent, sales, and influence are legendary. There's a reason everyone says they're the best ever. This was for best ALIVE, though, so they couldn't be included.

Of all the rappers ive heard by far, even going back to the 80's. I dont think anyone is better or has accomplished more than Eminem. Biggie and 2Pac were good and all but they only released like 1 album. Each GOOD rapper (AKA 2Pac and Nas) tries to impact the world somehow. But none of them did a variety of songs like Eminem did and at the same time PRODUCED HIS OWN MUSIC. Aside from that, Eminem had to work extra hard since he was white. Take into Eminem into comparison his variety of songs from partying, political, roleplaying, theatrical, comedy, life. He made a song of each type and mastered it. Lets take T.I. for example, all he talks about is women, money, and cars. Jay-Z has his somewhat good songs but its not catchy. Nas is good but doesnt cut it. The Game used to be good, but after he dissed Eminem and changed the track after, i lost his respect. Biggie just talks about violence. 2Pac and Rakim should be acknowledged to be one of the best but not better than the success of Eminem.

Biggie and 2Pac were good and all but they only released like 1 album. Each GOOD rapper (AKA 2Pac and Nas) tries to impact the world somehow. But none of them did a variety of songs like Eminem did and at the same time PRODUCED HIS OWN MUSIC. Aside from that, Eminem had to work extra hard since he was white. Take into Eminem into comparison his variety of songs from partying, political, roleplaying, theatrical, comedy, life. He made a song of each type and mastered it. Lets take T.I. for example, all he talks about is women, money, and cars. Jay-Z has his somewhat good songs but its not catchy. Nas is good but doesnt cut it. The Game used to be good, but after he dissed Eminem and changed the track after, i lost his respect. Biggie just talks about violence. 2Pac and Rakim should be acknowledged to be one of the best but not better than the success of Eminem.

Now now,just becasue a white rapper won doesn't mean you have to b**ch about it. Eminem is by far the best ever and will be until he dies. Just because he doesn't say nigga in his songs 15 times per track doesn't mean he's not good. I prefer Eminem to win over everyone else because at least he doesn't rap about pimpin' cars getting high going to the club or how good shawty looks in every single goddamn song he puts out. That's what seperates Eminem from the rest. He's a f**kin' genius. He doesn't need everybody to say something positive about him to make his music unlike 95% of the rappers today. Kanye West for example. He b**ches and moans about everything. If he doesn't win an award he b**ches,if he doesn't get to suck someone's dick first he b**ches. Kanye's one of the worst rappers of all time. Then saying Bush doesn't care about black people after Katrina? What the f**k does he think Bush did? Hop on the goddamn hurricane on ride it through Louisianna? Personally I have respect for other artists out there. But they all sound the same. Same style same storlyine same bullshit. Eminem at least has a way of making a distinctive story and making it come to life. Lose Yourself is a great example. Sing for the Moment is another great example. So he doesn't rap about his cars his money the hood,who gives a flying f**k to keep hearing that in the same song on the same album over and over and over. If that's the case I'd just buy your greastest hits when it comes out. I mean Jay-Z,Tupac,Biggie,Dre,Snoop,Luda,DMX they're all great artists no doubt. But they pale in comparisions to Eminem. He actually seems to know the difference between a hurricane and a tornado. You can find me offensive all you want but realize this. Eminem has made more history then all of these artists together. Except maybe Dre,Snoop and Ice Cube. Regardless this is a man who faced off against the American Governement Bush and Clinton. And while his music can be abrasive and violence. I believe he has the most inpiration out of all of the current rappers who are out there. Yes it's been awhile since he's produced anything. But all-in-all he has done well for a rapper whom many said he had no snowball chance in hell of getting anywhere,mainly because of his skin. And you wanna talk about whites being racist? Blacks can be just as racists. Everyone's racist. Wether or not they admit it to you. I know I sure as hell can be but I know it's not a good thing and I work my ass off everyday trying to improve on it. But when you compare Eminem to these other rappers you've got to stop and think. He's had more opposition put against him than just about all. You don't gotta like but at least try to respect him. Eminem I have the utmost respect for him. I believe he can easily beat anyone granted he would be dramatically challenged and that's not a bad thing. That's a good thing he gets better but sometimes misses his marks. But even the greats miss their marks sometimes. Tupac Biggie they all have. Eminem is a living legend if 'Pac and Biggie were still here they would be also no doubt. But they're not so you need to move on from that. As for Wayne...he's a piece of shit. His voice makes me wanna wish there was a gay naked hobo in front of me. But otherwise every other rapper out there ain't doing too good. Nas ain't that good,to me at least. Jay-Z he's so-so. 50 he's ok. T.I. I haven't heard his shit in awhile,I'd like to. Dre I haven't heard too much of him but I'd like to. Snoop's too repetitive for my taste. As for the rest dead or alive old or new. In my view yes they suck and plae in comparisions to Eminem. HANDS DOWN EMINEM IS BETTER THAN WEEZY, but is he the best rapper alive, maybe, a toss up between him, Nas, and AZ. Eminem's lyrics are so complex compared to lil wayne's stupid comparisons, and constant repeating everything he says, just in different ways. I would even say T.I. is better than lil wayne, but Eminem hands down is sooooo much better than "Cry Baby"

First of all the guy hasnt came out wit a cd in like 3 to 4 years.And it seems like that mostly white people are doing these votes.Cause anybody that really listens to music really wouldnt put him on the top 5 list.Yes dont get me wrong he has two or three good lyrically songs,but other than than most of his rhymes are abc,nursery rhymes.Lil Wayne is by far the best rapper alive,he just proved that by sellin a million copies in the first week.its just insane that vibe would even put this shit out without editing it.Thats like trying to keep the black man down,like they are trying to do wit obama.if i had a say i would say f**king boycott f**king vibe for this shit.Not only is it disrespectful,but it is also ignorant to allow this shit.
