Five female tussles to get you ready for the weekend's main event

We’re not about to start predicting the opening weekend box office numbers for Obsessed, the Fatal Attraction-like thriller starring Beyoncé, Idris Elba, and Ali Larter. We know a hit when see one and Obsessed is definitely that, for two reasons.

Elba is back in his most visible role since his departure from The Wire in 2004, when his character Stringer Bell was killed. Stringer Bellas, unite!

But the second reason is what's really going to put bodies in theaters around the country: The cheap thrills of a girl on girl fight between Knowles and Larter, who has been in fighting shape for some time in her starring role on NBC's Heroes. Yes, gentlemen, is it your greatest fantasy realized is in the form of a glorified Lifetime movie.

To get ready for the main event VIBE has dug up five of the best on-screen girl fights in recent Hollywood history. From Vivica A. Fox and Uma Thurman squaring off in Kill Bill Vol. 1 to Pam Grier, a girl fight Hall of Famer. In the words of Michael Buffer, Let’s get ready to rumble!

THE MATCHUP: Uma "The Bride" Thurman versus Vivica A."Vernita Green" Fox in Kill Bill Vol. 1 (Miramax, 2003)

This battle is bloodier than your average lady brawl. But that might be your thing, and we are not one to discriminate. Besides, knives are definitely hot.

THE MATCHUP: Denise "White She Devil" Richards versus Aunjanue "Sistah Girl" Ellis in Undercover Brother (Universal, 2002)

Stereotyping is wrong, so wrong…unless it involves Aunjanue Ellis, Denise Richards and showers. Then it’s all good.

THE MATCHUP: Talisa "Princess Katana" Soto versus Musetta "Queen Sindel" Vander in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (New Line Cinema, 1997)

Who knew Freud's Elektra Complex was going to evolve into something so sexy?! Princess Kitana whooping up on Queen Sindel was one of the highlights of this classicaly bad late 90's video game adaption.

THE MATCHUP: Pam "Foxy Brown" Grier versus A Lesbian Bar in Foxy Brown (American International Pictures, 1974)

The L Word alum was hanging with the kids way before Showtimelooked her way. How many bar stools does it take to take out a girls softball team? Apparently six.

THE MATCHUP: Halle "Jinx" Berry versus Rosamond "Miranda Frost" Pike in Die Another Day (MGM, 2002)

Honestly, I fell asleep after I saw Halle Berry sashay on the beach with that orange bikini. But there is some well  placed heavy breathing and some knife work that makes this flick a nice selection for a Netflix night.
