THE COSIGN: Slacker Personal Radio

A free Mother's Day gift? Priceless.

Mother's Day is always a struggle. Doesn't matter if you're trying to spend one, ten, or a million dollars. First, no matter what you buy for your mom, there's a good chance she's gonna love it. It doesn't matter that you stopped off at the gas station 10 minutes before you saw her and copped an overpriced bouquet of flowers. You're her baby, therefore, she loves it. Second, you know how much effort you actually put into your gift--and how little it compares to everything she does for you. So even if you went through a ton of trouble to buy that bouquet (like, say, I dunno, actually hitting up a real florist?), you're still gonna feel guilty after you give it to her. She's your mom, after all, and nothing you do once a year can repay her for the other 364 she's got you covered.

That said, why not at the very least try and recapture the feeling you used to get when you actually put a little thought into the gifts you gave your mom for Mother's Day? You know, the ones that included an insane amount of Elmer's glue and construction paper. There's this thing called Slacker Radio. For those that are unfamiliar, it's a personalized online radio service that you can play through your computer, BlackBerry, iPhone or Slacker G2 unit ($199; slacker.com).

Normally, I'd recommend it for anyone looking to customize their radio-listening experience. At home, on the fly, on a plane, on a train, it's a good look. In this instance, I'd recommend using it to get at Mother's Day in a creative way. For starters, Slacker has taken out the guess work and made a special Mother's Day station that's located over here that features a ton of artists singing, rapping and showing their love to their moms (and before you ask, yes, there's some Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion mixed in there, but Nas, 2Pac and Kanye all get their turn, too). So there's that. But the cool thing about Slacker: It also offers you the option of creating your own radio station and including your own music. So, why not go the extra mile, do this mixtape style and make your mom feel special with her own radio station? It's clever, creative and, oh yeah, Slacker is free, too. Just like that weird red heart thingy you made for her when you were in the third grade. So, what are you waiting for? Stop slacking and start Slacker. You can thank me later.
