Voting for the second round kicks off today

Much like the real-life NCAA Basketball Tournament, the first round of the Play-In bracket for VIBE’s Best Rapper Ever competition resulted in little to no upsets.

According to votes cast over the past two days at VIBE.com, Wale, Asher Roth, Drake, and Kid Cudi have all advanced to the second round of the Play-In bracket, setting up Wale v. Asher as well as the blockbuster Drake v. Kid Cudi match up. The Play-In bracket will determine which of these four rappers will represent the hip hop’s next generation in the full Best Rapper Ever competition, which kicks off next Monday, May 18. The winner of the Play-In bracket will receive the 128th seed overall and immediately face Eminem, who secured the number one overall seed when he was named the Best Rapper Alive by voters at VIBE.com last year.

Of the four next generation rappers still standing, Wale received the most votes (536), eliminating Jay Electronica by nearly a four to one margin. Asher Roth received the fewest votes of any of the round one survivors, beating out Bobby Ray (formerly B.o.B.), 442 votes to Ray’s 222. Drake took down California’s Blu (519 votes to Blu’s 147), and Kid Cudi took out Charles Hamilton with 488 votes to Hamilton’s 117.

Voting for the second round of the Play-In bracket begins now, and will remain open until Friday, May 15, at 9 a.m. EST. Vote daily to show your support for your favorite rapper, and check back often for more updates on VIBE Presents The Best Rapper Ever.
