Remembering yesterday, one day at a time

On this day in 2003, Houston-born singer Beyoncé Knowles officially diverged from the trio of Destiny’s Child with the release of her debut solo album, Dangerously In Love (Columbia). And so it began—the rise of thewildly successful diva that she is today. Hit singles like the title track (featuring future husband Jay-Z) and Baby Boy (featuring dancehall star Sean Paul) sent fans rushing to the stores, proving B’s viability as an A-list solo artist. Today, Beyoncé is considered one of the most successful artists in music history with burgeoning careers in film and fashion as well. Dangerously In Love alone won her five Grammy Awards and charted at No. 1 on both The Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Long before the rise of Sasha Fierce, this was the day Beyoncé exploded as pop diva dynamite.
