On Monday, we revealed the winners of the third round of VIBE Presents The Best Rapper Ever. And while there were some mild surprises—you guys sure do love, DMX, huh?!—most of the remaining competitors were usual suspects: Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Rakim, Snoop Dogg, Big Daddy Kane, Ghostface, Andre 3000, Scarface, KRS-One, Big Punisher, Nas, Ice Cube and, of course, last year’s VIBE Presents Best Rapper Alive winner Eminem. Same old same, right? But then we had a meeting yesterday and all hell broke loose.
“DMX is gonna win it all!”
“Jay-Z is gonna smash Andre 3000!”
“Big Daddy Kane has no shot against Em!”
“Big Pun is gonna be too much for Biggie!”
And then we realized, this is exactly why we put this tournament together in the first place. See, rap fans love to argue—especially when it comes to the big names of the genre. Jay-Z versus Andre 3000? 2Pac versus Scarface? Biggie versus Big Pun? Eff a VIBE bracket. These are arguments that we have everyday. You probably do, too. At the barbershop. At school. In your dorm room. On the corner. So while some of you might’ve disagreed with the original seedings for the 128 rappers included in this tournament, there’s no disagreeing with this: The fourth round of the Best Rapper Ever tournament is about to settle some heated debates that have been going on for years now. Check out the Sweet Sixteen here and get your vote on here ASAP.
Remember, vote early and vote often (we do). And later today, some of the VIBE editors will be duking it out and breaking down this round’s key matchups. Get excited and, as always, stay tuned to VIBE.com for more on Best Rapper Ever.
