Coko Goes To Church
Cheryl “Coko” Gamble-Clemmons, former lead singer of SWV, won’t talk about SWV--not the split, at least. She doesn’t dodge snooping questions but in a series of single sentence responses she manages to liken the division of the three piece platinum selling girl group, the monarch of summer block party play lists, the storehouse of 90s anthems for boy crazy pubescent girls, to the reason why cell phones that were dropped in toilets don’t always ring: technical difficulties. And technically, though we’d like to know all about what might have been shoddy management, possible cat fights—the unnamed demons that tore SWV asunder--the married mother of two has no reason to dish.
