O That's Haute: Michelle Obama's First Term Of Fashion

O That's Haute: Michelle Obama's First Term Of Fashion

VIBE Posted November 6, 2012

GOP mudslinging and congressional wrestling will leave any liberal Prez dirty. It’s paramount that his woman keep him looking good with grade A FLOTUS fly. In the name of codependent couture, VIBE enlists Miss Universe Fashion Director/ StyleWise CEO Alisha Crutchfield to recap Michelle Obama’s four years of fashion.

2009
The Designer, J. Crew

The Look: The cream-colored cardigan and double strand of pearls ultimately set the tone for what has now become Mrs. Obama’s “high-low” fashion aesthetic. The look became instant classic chic.

The Scoop: She donned this outfit during a trip to London. It was sold out by 10 a.m. the next day.
2010
The Designer, Isaac Mizrahi

The Look: This rich wine-hued frock was a Michelle O attention grabber. The silhouette was a surprising detour from her
normally exposed arms.

The Scoop: Others think it was inappropriate for a First Lady. We think it exemplified her powerful and ladylike persona.
2011
The Designer, Alexander McQueen

The Look: Definitely her most fashion-forward adornment; we were stunned when the First Lady chose to wear this striking gown to the State Dinner. The fire-toned asymmetrical number was a jaw-dropper.

The Scoop: The dress caused some controversy because it was not from the collection of an American designer. We, though, were excited to see a FLOTUS embrace the world of couture!
2012
The Designer, Tracy Reese

The Look: With this beautiful pink custom-made dress, Mrs. O took us back to her most adored and criticized look, fully exposing those toned arms and shoulders we admire so.

The Scoop: As election time approaches Michelle remains close to the stylish and approachable aesthetic she’s exhibited throughout her husband’s presidency (see 2012 Democratic National Convention).
