Adam Levine has come a long way since opening up for singer Michelle Branch with Maroon 5 as a relatively unknown band, but there are some memories from humble beginnings you’ll never forget.

In Monday night’s broadcast of NBC’s “The Voice,” contestant Cassadee Pope banged out a live rendition of the Branch single “Are You Happy Now?” which brought an unpleasant flashback for the Maroon 5 frontman.

“We used to open for Michelle Branch,” Levine told Pope. “I remember we opened for her at the Roxy, and they didn’t even give us a dressing home. I hate the Roxy. I’ll never play there again.”

Pope, whose former band Hey Monday have performed at the Roxy, tried to swing it in the West Hollywood club’s favor. “I love the Roxy,” she said.

However, Levine stood firm in his opinion. “Oh, the Roxy is horrible. Don’t ever go there,” he added. “They screwed us over and now they’re paying for it.”

The Roxy had no problem playing along, when they posted a photo of their marquee on Twitter that read “Adam Levine your dressing room is ready.” A sarcastic tweet was also attached “Bands need dressing rooms #notetoself.”
