Rick Ross, Tupac, John Legend Featured on ‘Django Unchained’ Soundtrack

/ November 29, 2012

On the heels of VIBE’s Dec/Jan issue featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Jaime Foxx comes the cover art and track list for Django Unchained’s official soundtrack. The project is slated for release on December 18th and features a plethora of tracks, some old and some new. Rick Ross, Tupac, James Brown and more are all featured on the 23-track disc. Jamie Foxx flexed his producing muscles as he took on Rick Ross’ track “100 Black Coffins.”

The films’ director Quentin Tarantino gave credit to those artists featured on the soundtrack saying, “I want to thank all the artists who contributed original songs (a first for me) to the picture.” Tarantino also went on to say, “most of the contributions came out of the artists’ own inspiration and their illustration of the film’s soul is invaluable.”

Keeping up with the antiquated feel of the film Tarantino said that he is including “a lot of older recordings on the soundtrack” many of which are a part of his own personal vinyl collection. He also made it a point to say that “instead of the recording companies giving me new digitally cleaned up versions of these recordings,” he’s upholding the timelessness of these tracks “complete with all the pops and cracks.”
