Marvin Gaye's Son Doesn't Want Lenny Kravitz Playing His Dad In Biopic

Marvin Gaye's Son Doesn't Want Lenny Kravitz Playing His Dad In Biopic

Adelle Platon Posted December 3, 2012

After rocker Lenny Kravitz signed on to play the starring role in the Marvin Gaye biopic "Midnight Love," the Motown legend's son is yelling halt.

As we previously reported, director Julien Temple ("Absolute Beginners") is helming the film that is set to chronicle the final years of Gaye's life, struggling with his alcohol addiction and eventually reviving his career at the hands of music promoter Freddy Cousaert.

Now Marvin Gaye III is asking his childhood pal Kravitz to step away from the project he calls "shameful," TMZ reports. "The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful," he tells TMZ. "[They're] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don't even know the whole story."

While he remains friends with the musician and "The Hunger Games" star, he has yet to confront Kravitz about his opinion on the film. He says he and other family members are seeking legal counsel to cease production. "I would hope [Lenny] doesn't have any idea that we are against this film being done."
