Confederate Flag Ban For Texas School

A Texas school has imposed a Confederate flag ban after a racial incident. Hays High School in Buda, Texas has long displayed the Confederate flag at football games, along with their mascot the Rebel. But two students were accused of writing racial slurs and urinating on the door of a black teacher's office, which inflamed racial tension at the school.

The Confederate flag ban was approved by board members by a 5-2 margin on Monday, and will prohibit the display of the flag on district property or at district sponsored events. The Confederate flag ban comes in spite of the board approving the song "Dixie" as the official school song in October, despite the slavery undertones it evokes.

According to the Austin-American Statesman, reaction to the Confederate flag ban was mixed - some people believe the flag is a sign of Southern pride, and oppose banning the Confederate flag.
