Paparazzi are notorious for taking extreme measures to snap flicks of celebrities, especially Justin Bieber. Sadly, one photographer was killed on Tuesday (Jan. 1) after taking a picture of the 18-year-old singer’s white Ferrari in Los Angeles.
According to the LAPD, paparazzo Chris Guerra caught a glimpse of Bieber’s car parked near Interstate 405 and attempted to capture a photo of the singer inside. Once he took the photos -- which did not include Bieber -- he was struck by a vehicle in oncoming traffic while crossing the freeway to return to his own car. The singer’s Ferrari was being driven by his friends, and Bieber was not present for the incident.
“While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim,” Bieber wrote in a statement. “Hopefully this tragedy will inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders and the photographers themselves.”
This is the second major incident Justin Bieber has had with paparazzi. Back in July, the singer was involved in a high-speed chase on Los Angeles’ 101 Freeway. The photographer was charged with reckless driving.
