Any inch of wax Taylor Swift touches becomes instant gold. The country pop-star rocked on her way out of 2012, claiming the top spot of Billboard's Top 200 Chart with her latest album "Red."
Sitting pretty at no. 1 for seven non-consecutive weeks, the 23-year-old Swift tied Adele for most weeks by a female artist at number one on the chart since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales figures for Billboard in 1991. Nielsen SoundScan figures show that post-holiday digital sales made up for half of the 241,000 units sold.
According to Reuters, the soundtrack for the film adaptation of "Les Miserables" occupied the second spot, selling 136,000 units after the film hit theaters Christmas Day. British boy band One Direction took third while Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox" and rapper T.I.'s "Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head" rounded out the top five.
Not a bad way to kick off the new year.
