Wale Performs His New Mixtape at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC

Iyana Robertson Posted January 8, 2013

Maybach Music Group frontrunner Wale hit the Bowery Ballroom in New York City last night to perform tracks from his new mixtape Folarin.

The free catalog from the DC spitter since his 2011 studio album Ambition--a collaborative effort with Brooklyn's own DJ Clark Kent--features 21 tracks, ranging from Wale's introspective wordplay to the rapper's penchant for a good club banger. DJ Clark Kent spun for the crowd before the rapper took the stage, and introduced him with praise for his lyrical talents.

"The reason I work with Wale is because he is one of the best rhyme sayers," he said. "I'm known for working with lyricists, and he's a dope lyricist."

Wale hit the stage, starting off the night with "Get Me Doe," the mixtape's lead single featuring 2 Chainz. He then proceeded to run through a series of hits from his first single "Chillin'" to Ambition favorites "Chain Music," "Sabotage," and the album's title track. He also performed a few of his popular featured verses, from Waka Flocka's "No Hands" to Rick Ross' "Bag of Money" and "Diced Pineapples." The Maybach representer also expressed his gratitude for being considered for a Grammy after performing the nominated single "Lotus Flower Bomb."

Wale shared the stage with several guests during the night, including French Montana to perform "Actin' Up" and "Back 2 Ballin'," another Folarin banger. He also brought out Coke Boy Chinx Drugz for "Let a N*gga Know."

One notable appearance came from Tiara Thomas, the DC native singer signed to Wale's The Board of Administration label, who joined Wale on stage for "Bad," the mixtape's intimate ode to troubled, no-strings-attached relationships. Thomas strummed an acoustic guitar, spit a few bars and even added a sung rendition of Trillville's "Some Cut." Black Cobain, another TBA artist, also joined Wale on stage as he opened the show.
