McDonald's Installing DNA Spray Security System

Thieves beware - there's a chance of your local McDonald's installing a DNA spray security system.

It seems that robberies at McDonald's franchises in Australia have spiked, and the company is striking back with by installing a DNA spray security system, which would tag robbers with a trackable DNA code as they flee from stores. The McDonald's DNA spray security system is being handled by SelectaDNA, a private security company.

There has been a rash of robberies at McDonald's in Sydney, and McDonald's installing a DNA spray security system would help law enforcement crack down on burglars. The DNA code is UV-activated, so police would simply wave a blacklight over suspects in order to determine if they were at the scene of a crime.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, "A spokesperson for McDonald's said the company will increase the use of ' SelectaDNA' in stores all over the country after a successful trial in their six busiest Sydney restaurants was launched in January last year. The move comes as police ramp up their patrols of local McDonald's restaurants after a spate of robberies across Sydney during the Christmas and New Year period."

The DNA spray will stay on skin for up to six months, and will stain clothes almost permanently, allowing police to identify criminals with ease.
