Yesterday, (January 21) was a phenomenal day in history. Not only was it Martin Luther King Day and the 50th anniversary of his “I Have a Dream” speech, but it was the second inauguration of the first African American president in U.S. history, Barack Obama. First Lady Michelle Obama was right by his side in good fashion as she wore Thom Browne at the mornings ceremonies and Jason Wu for the evenings Inaugural ball.
Lady in Red, Michelle showed off her greatest assets in a custom-made ruby chiffon gown accessorized with Jimmy Choo shoes and a ring by Kimberly McDonald.
This is Mrs. Obama’s second time giving designer Jason Wu publicity after wearing a white one shoulder dress for the first inaugural ball. Wu had no idea she was going to pick his designs and tweeted “#Inshock!!!” He told WWD,”Mrs. Obama likes to keep her secrets. She surprised me again, I was so nervous. You’d think I wouldn’t be since I’d experienced it before but I really was.”
The first couple moved to the rhythms of Al Green‘s “Let’s Stay Together” performed by Jennifer Hudson for their first dance.
It was an amazing night that will certainly go down in the history books. Check out photos of the POTUS and FLOTUS at the 2013 Inaugural Ball!
