Ab-Soul Explains Black Hippy Movement, 'Control System,' And TDE Album

Ab-Soul Explains Black Hippy Movement, 'Control System,' And TDE Album

Keenan Higgins Posted July 17, 2012

If you haven't been put on to Top Dawg Entertainment (appropriately abbreviated as "TDE") and their Black Hippy Movement yet, get familiar, quick.

Ab-Soul is one of the crews' superb MCs—also including Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, and team captain Kendrick Lamar. Fresh off his two-month-old album, Control System—which has garnered much critical acclaim—Ab is definitely controlling his part of the legacy that TDE is grooming rather well. The Cali-bred rapper has a look and style similar to Eazy E, but a flow that's completely all his own.

We got a chance to catch up with the black-lipped bastard early last month and chop it up about everything from Black Hippy moving as individual artists and a team, working on Control System, and what we should expect from that inevitable future TDE compilation album.—Keenan Higgins (@HIGzILLMATIC)
