The 10 Biggest Fails of Shyne's Recent Career

The 10 Biggest Fails of Shyne's Recent Career

Chris Yuscavage Posted November 14, 2012
Remember when Shyne used to make headlines that didn't make you cringe? No? Well, we don't blame you. It's been more than a decade since he released his self-titled debut album. And, truthfully, it's been about that long since the last time we saw him make headlines for doing something positive, too.

Of course, Shyne spent almost 10 years in prison for the 1999 Club New York shooting involving Diddy (then known as Puff Daddy) and Jennifer Lopez. So, for awhile there, he didn't make any headlines at all. But, since being released back in August 2009, it seems like it's been one fail after another for the once-promising rapper. From dropping wack verses to getting himself involved in wack beefs, Shyne has experienced a number of fails in the last few years.

So, with that in mind, we decided to put together a list of The 10 Biggest Fails of Shyne's Recent Career. We hope he puts a stop to the negative publicity soon. If he has any chance of making a full-fledged comeback, he's got to stop the bleeding.
The Fail: Dissing Kendrick Lamar's debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, on Twitter and calling it "traaaaash"
The Date: October 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: Even if Shyne really did dislike KL's album, the way he went about letting the world know his feelings for it made him sound like a hater. If you're going to say something is "traaaaash," at least offer up a few reasons why you're not into it. Otherwise, it just sounds like you're hating on it instead of actually critiquing it.
The Fail: Throwing shots at Game for sticking up for Kendrick Lamar by releasing a song called "Cough Up A Lung" that featured several shots directed at Shyne
The Date: November 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: You could argue that Game releasing a song about Shyne is a fail. But, we expect Game to beef with people like Shyne when he's got an album on the horizon. That's what Game does. Shyne's response to Game was just silly, though. He called him his "son" and said that Game "studied me and aspired to be like me." Really, Shyne? You think Game was studying you? Whatever.
The Fail: Releasing a Diddy diss track called "You're Welcome" just a few months after calling a truce with him
The Date: August 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: We don't blame Shyne if he hates Diddy. After all, Diddy is one of the reasons Shyne spent almost a decade of his life in prison. But, yo: Either decide that you're going to forgive him and be cool, or tell the world you hate him and move on? Stop trying to do both. It seems like every other month Shyne and Diddy are making up. But then, Shyne turns around and disses him whenever Diddy does something he doesn't like. It's time for him to pick one side or the other…and stick with it!
The Fail: Endorsing Mitt Romney instead of President Obama
The Date: October 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: It wouldn't have been a fail if Shyne actually had a valid reason for endorsing Romney. But, his reasoning was that President Obama knew that he had been deported after being released from jail (you know, 'cause the Commander-in-Chief has nothing better to do than to follow Shyne's deportation issues) and didn't do anything to stop it. Uh, what? Like we said, if Shyne had a good reason to endorse Romney, then we have no problem with him doing it. But, the reason he gave was completely bogus.
The Fail: Dropping a terrible verse on DJ Khaled's "All My Life"
The Date: February 2010
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: Remember this track? It featured Akon, Shyne, and Mavado and was supposed to appear on Khaled's Victory album. But, it got such a terrible response that, when the album dropped, the song was nowhere to be found. Yes, it was that bad.
The Fail: Calling SchoolBoy Q a "fag" on Twitter
The Date: October 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: After SchoolBoy Q defended his boy Kendrick Lamar, Shyne used a homophobic slur against him on Twitter. We know Shyne hasn't been around much lately, but the other "F-word" is a word that doesn't get tossed around as freely as it used to. And, rightfully so. So, we were glad to see Nipsey Hussle step into the mix after he used it to tell Shyne that his "West Coast pass is revoked."
The Fail: Misspelling "bar mitzvah" while taking shots at Rick Ross
The Date: October 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: In early October, Rozay released a new mixtape called Black Bar Mitzvah. And, Shyne—who converted to Judaism while in jail—took offense to it. So, he threw some shots in RR's direction and also questioned his mixtape's title. "Black bartmitzva?" he wrote on Twitter. "These coppers fantasize about the things that i do daily like these coppers rap about life I live really!…First they criticize me for being a Jew, now they're favorite fake rapper is having a black bar mitzva? GTFOH." No, Shyne. You GTFOH. You just misspelled "bar mitzvah" TWICE!
The Fail: Dissing 50 Cent (again!) on his mixtape, Gangland
The Date: September 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: Back in 2004, Shyne sent shots at 50 on a song called "For the Record" that was recorded over the phone while he was in prison. He sent more shots on another diss track that was released in 2010. And, he went back to that same well a few weeks ago by dissing him on a song called "Fred Hampton," where he referred to 50 as a snitch. Why? Uhhhh….your guess is as good as ours. That well is dry, Shyne.
The Fail: Referring to Drake as "an actor from Canada"
The Date: October 2012
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: Drizzy is an easy target for rappers. Everyone from Chris Brown to DMX has taken shots at him in the past. So, it looked petty when Shyne did it recently. And, wasn't Shyne once talking about trying to sign with Cash Money? Guess that plan must have gone out the window, huh?
The Fail: Getting completely disrespected by Lloyd Banks during a radio interview with Miss Info
The Date: October 2010
Why It Was A Bad Look For Shyne: It's one thing for us to slight Shyne's music or for other rappers to get upset about the way that Shyne conducts himself on Twitter. But, the reaction that some rappers have given to Shyne's recent musical output is indicative of where he's at in his career right now. Two years ago, Banks was asked his opinion on a diss track Shyne recorded about 50 Cent. And, he completely disrespected everything that Shyne had put out since being released from prison. "I'll be the first to tell you and the world that [Shyne] is very wack right now," he said. "He's a D-class rapper to me." A D-class rapper? Ouch.
