10 Bold Predictions For The 2013 Grammy Awards

10 Bold Predictions For The 2013 Grammy Awards

Chris Yuscavage Posted February 8, 2013
Are you excited for the 55th Grammy Awards to take place on Sunday? You should be. Outside of the fact that there is now a looooooong list of great acts performing—including Rihanna, Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, and Justin Timberlake—there are also a number of great acts up for big awards. By now, you probably already know that Frank Ocean was nominated for the "Album of the Year," "Record of the Year," and "Best New Artist" awards. But, he's not the only artist looking to make history. Nas and Drake will also be in search of their first Grammy trophies. Miguel has a chance to win the "Song of the Year" award. And, even the EDM categories will have everyone talking this year! Sunday night should be a lot of fun.

Before we start the festivities, though, we thought we would have a little bit of pre-Grammy Awards fun. And, in order to do it, we put together a list of predictions for the night. From the dress we think a certain artist will wear on the red carpet to the "altercation" that we think two artists will get into backstage during the show (it's not who you think!), these are our 10 Bold Predictions For The 2013 Grammy Awards. Make sure you tune in to see what really happens on Sunday night. But, don't be surprised if a few of these come true.
Prediction #1: LL Cool J will wear a funny hat while hosting.
Let's start off with an easy one. Last year, we predicted LL would take the stage wearing a funny hat—and we were right. So, let's go double or nothing, shall we? Who wants to take our bet? Er, anyone? Anyone at all?
Prediction #2: The dress that Rihanna wears on the red carpet will be every bit as scandalous as the dress that Jennifer Lopez wore back in 2000.
It's going to be really, really, really hard for Rih-Rih to top J-Lo's look. But, doesn't it seem like it's about time for her to go all-out on the red carpet? Over the course of the last few years, her Grammy looks have been relatively tame. So, it's time for her to shock the world with whatever she wears this year. We expect it to be something extra special.
Prediction #3: No one will dress up like the Pope on the red carpet.
Sorry! But, Nicki Minaj wasn't nominated for a single Grammy Award this year (boo!). So, it sounds like that guy who dressed up as the Pope and walked down the red carpet with her last year won't be making his return to the red carpet. Major bummer.
Prediction #4: fun. will ruin all of Frank Ocean's fun at the Grammys and send him home (almost!) empty-handed.
It sucks to be Frank Ocean right now. On the one hand, he's nominated in every single major Grammy category. But, on the other, the band fun. is right next to him in every category. NOT fun! So, he's going to struggle to win a major Grammy category. That "Best Short Form Music Video" Grammy for Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild" is going to look awfully nice in his display case at home, though!
Prediction #5: Not to worry, though, Frank Ocean fans: Odd Future will make an appearance during his performance and help him have some fun on Grammy night.
At some point during the night, Frank has to bring out Tyler, the Creator & Co., right? It just wouldn't be right for him to leave them out in the cold. And, the only time Frank is guaranteed to be on stage is when he performs. So, don't be surprised to see plenty of Vans and Supreme hoodies on the Grammy stage at some point during Frank's set.
Prediction #6: Two EDM artists will get into an "altercation" backstage.
In past years, no one cared about the EDM awards. Well, we take that back: Someone cared about them, but it probably wasn't you. But, now that EDM has become a lot more mainstream, all eyes will be on guys like Deadmau5, Skrillex, and Avicii. That's great for them, but it also means that they're all going to be fighting for attention. So, don't be surprised to hear about an "altercation" or two breaking out at the Grammys between them.
Prediction #7: A #KanyesNotAtTheGrammysBecause hashtag will break out on Twitter.
Kanye West may end up showing up at the Grammys…but we wouldn't bet on it. He's said that he's not coming. He's been nominated for a numbers of awards, though, and will probably win at least one or two. So, when his name is called and he's not there, you're going to want to be armed with a hashtag to mark the occasion. We recommend going with "#KanyesNotAtTheGrammysBecause," but feel free to choose whichever 'Ye-related hashtag you want. We're sure there will be plenty of them floating around on Twitter.
Prediction #8: Rick Ross will win the "Best Rap Album" award and give his acceptance speech surrounded by 40 armed guards.
Most gangster acceptance speech ever? Hardly. But, Ross has been in hiding ever since the near-tragic shooting that took place a little over a week ago, and he reportedly hired a bunch of armed guards to watch him at all times. We just hope the Grammy organizers reserved a couple extra rows of seats for the MMG head honcho's new friends.
Prediction #9: Justin Timberlake will make everyone forgot how much they disliked "Suit & Tie" when it first came out.
You didn't like the song when it dropped? Oh. Then, why are you going to be moonwalking all over your living room on Sunday night when JT performs it at the Grammys? Yeah, that's what we thought. We told you you'd come around to it!
Prediction #10: Nas will not win a Grammy.
Okay, so maybe this isn't "bold." For whatever reason, NAS NEVER WINS A GRAMMY WHEN HE'S NOMINATED! Hopefully, we'll wrong here. But, we fear the Grammy voters are going to overlook Nasty…again. Care to prove us wrong, guys?
