“Lolita” (3121, 2006)
Following his double platinum 2004 comeback Musicology, the usually guarded Prince found himself once again in the spotlight. But why perform your most accessible pop work in ages on ratings-killer American Idol at a time when the show actually moved the pop culture needle, and not allow the public to bath in its effervescent hook? Actually, why ask why? He’s Prince.
“Sticky Like Glue” (20TEN, 2010)
Prince chose to release his 35th full-length studio album via various newspaper publications overseas. The unusual marketing move was indeed a headline-maker. Unfortunately, unless you are diehard fan or a 70-year-old English retiree who reads the UK’s Daily Mirror, you most likely had no idea that this project—which features the top shelf “Sticky Like Glue”—even existed. Regardless, this is some damn good stuff. If you come across this unheralded gem you will find yourself strumming some mean rhythm air guitar.
