10 Rappers Who Need To Launch Their Own Viral Video Series ASAP

10 Rappers Who Need To Launch Their Own Viral Video Series ASAP

Chris Yuscavage Posted October 25, 2012
We know what you're thinking. At this point, in 2012, do we really need to be doing a list about this? After all, YouTube had been around for years now, and there have been tons of different rappers—ranging from 50 Cent and Rick Ross to Diddy and Joe Budden—who have used viral videos to give their careers a boost. In fact, there are some rappers (we won't name any names!) who are still relevant today simply because of their ability to make funny videos and send them out to all the rap blogs. It helps them keep their names out there even when their music isn't popping.

One rapper who has done a remarkable job of using his video series to keep his name out there recently is Gunplay. Specifically, he put out a video called "Gone Fishin" earlier this month that featured him saying, "Y'all niggas blogs be boring," towards the beginning of it before showcasing a bunch of footage of him fishing. It sounds like it wouldn't be all that exciting. But, in actuality, it was quite entertaining and helped Gunplay show off a side of him that he's not always able to show off through his music. Videos like that have helped him make a real connection with his fans.

With that in mind, we decided to put together a list of the 10 Rappers Who Need To Launch Their Own Video Series ASAP. By doing so, these rappers would help build their brand, bring attention to their upcoming projects, and, most importantly, entertain the hell out of us. We want to see how you guys are living! And, c'mon: It's 2012! How do you not have a consistent video series popping yet? Get someone to start following you around with a camcorder immediately. If it can help someone like Gunplay, then it can probably help you, too.
The Rapper: Big Sean
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: Big Sean has been doing big things over the course of the last year. From kicking it with Justin Bieber in the studio to performing alongside Jay-Z, Kanye West's protege has been doing it big lately. So, we can only imagine the types of things he's getting into during his everyday life. Sean might be in for the biggest year of his life in 2013. It's time for him to start documenting it a little bit more closely.
The Rapper: Pusha T
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: If you believe everything Pusha says in his raps—and on his Twitter account—his life is pretty damn interesting. He shops in designer stores. He makes routine trips out to Hawaii to work with Kanye West. And, he still gets it in back in his hometown of Virginia Beach. So, wouldn't you like to see what goes on with him on an everyday basis? We sure would. And, we bet it'd get his solo album release date pushed up, too.
The Rapper: Shyne
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: Right now, Shyne is routinely making headlines for some of the ridiculous things that he says. In the last month alone, he's gone at Rick Ross and called Kendrick Lamar's debut album "trash." The only problem is that we only hear him "say" these things on his Twitter account. So, why not start a Web series and say them for the whole world to actually hear? We'd also be interested in seeing what's so great about his life right now that he's got all this time to be critical of others. Show us, Shyne. Show us.
The Rapper: Fabolous
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: Have you ever wondered what Fab does between albums? We certainly have. Every time he's got an album on the way, he's everywhere. And then, once that album fades into the distance, so does Fab. But, we imagine he's living the good life in New York City—attending parties at clubs, hanging out in the studio, and enjoying life. So, recording "The Fabolous Life" for the Web would help us understand exactly how he's living when he's not promoting albums.
The Rapper: Gucci Mane
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: I can personally vouch for this one. I wrote a story on Gucci for VIBE a few years back and got the chance to kick it with him in Atlanta. And, he leads a very, er, "interesting" life. By all accounts, he spends his days driving his Lambo around the outskirts of the A, chilling in rundown strip clubs (no, really), and getting followed around by a couple of his boys who carry his money in briefcases. It's ridiculous. But, as a result, it'd be a hoot to watch Gucci do his everyday thing.
The Rapper: Lil Chuckee
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: WTF is Young Money's youngest member doing on a regular basis? We know he's a hit on Twitter. But, seriously: What does he do everyday when he wakes up? Go to school? Play XBox? Take naps in the studio? We're genuinely interested in finding out how his day-to-day life goes and how he's working towards becoming YM's next superstar.
The Rapper: Freddie Gibbs
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: We all know Gibbs can rap really, really well. Look no further than his mixtapes for evidence of that. But, he also seems to have a really big personality that he doesn't get to show off enough. He's not afraid to insult other people, and he never bites his tongue for anyone. So, a Web series that features him would probably be a hit. It'd do a lot to help bring awareness to his music, too, which is something that he definitely needs right now if he wants to take the next step in his career.
The Rapper: Sean Price
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: Over the last year or two, Sean P has put out some pretty ridiculous videos that have gone viral. Just go Google "Sean P plays tennis" to see what we're talking about. Our only complaint? He hasn't recorded enough of them. We want more! He's got the natural charisma to carry a video dealing with just about any situation. So, we hope that we get to see more clips of him doing, well, anything. Anything at all. Bring it on, P.
The Rapper: E-40
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: 40 has the whole "making music" thing down. He just released, like, seven albums on the same day a few months ago. What he doesn't have, though, is a great Web presence. And, that's a shame because 40 is probably doing some pretty interesting stuff out in the Bay right now. What exactly is he doing? We don't know. But, we bet that watching him do it would be every bit as entertaining as watching Gunplay fishing.
The Rapper: Chief Keef
Why He Needs His Own Video Series: Keef already has a bad history of making videos. He made with Pitchfork a couple months back that featured him shooting guns at a gun range. Not exactly a great look for him. So, why doesn't he take matters into his own hands and start recording his own stuff? Listen, we know everyone has an opinion on him—and we know that some people might not like what Keef has to show the world—but he'd be better off taking control of his own destiny by filming his life than letting others dictate it for him. And, you could say that about everyone else on this list, too. It's 2012, guys. Time to start creating your own videos.
