Uh oh. Another big budget religious movie. Christian Bale stars as Moses as director Ridley Scott attempts to convince everyone there should be at least two 2014 big budget films based on the Old Testament.
No dinner party becomes better when one participant begins shouting about the positives (or negatives) of a particular religion to his fellow diners. And that is exactly what it feels like with Exodus. There are many risks involved with making any movie, so why do studios still want to make a genre film that divides an audience months before any trailer is due to be released?
The answer is simple – The Passion of the Christ. Passion was a global smash despite (or perhaps because of?) the fact that critics didn’t like the film. The other positive for Passion was its relatively small budget of $30 million. Exodus will include a cast of 3,000 to 4,000 extras, and will likely cost well above $150 million. If the film doesn’t live up to the expectations of the audience, you may see everyone take an… Exodus to the exit.
We know. We’re sorry too.
