Guardians of the Galaxy
It’s Marvel, it’s got superheroes, and it’s coming out in the summer blockbuster season; it will be a smash hit, right? Well, not so fast. Marvel is trying to branch out and get its audience excited about characters who are pretty far removed from the public consciousness. The Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t exactly one of Marvel’s better known properties, and that could come back to hurt them as audiences stay away from characters they know nothing about.
Also, there’s the feeling that there are just too many superhero movies now. Are we becoming oversaturated with super-people? How many times do we need to see a character or a group of characters fight against An Unstoppable Force in hopes of saving the city/world/galaxy?
Guardians of the Galaxy recently released a trailer that emphasizes the humor that will take center stage in the film. That might be enough to differentiate it from the host of other similar superheroes movies, but if not, it could go down as one of Marvel’s (rare) busts.
