The death of celebrated actor James Gandolfini hit the entertainment industry like a ton of bricks on Wednesday (June 19). The Sopranos star died from a heart attack while on vacation in Rome, according to an HBO spokeswoman speaking to The Wrap. With the cause of death still unconfirmed, Hollywood and cinephiles alike expressed their condolences via publicists and social media sites.

The 51-year-old award-winning performer starred in 51 films, including the recently released The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and the upcoming Animal Rescue (2014). Armed with immense talent, Gandolfini was a special man able to be viciously cruel one moment and a gentle and loving soul the next. He touched so many of us over the years with his humor, his warmth and, yes, his brutality and will be deeply missed.
