For those that have seen director James Mangold's The Wolverine, did it make up for 10 years of lopsided X-Men movies?
Hugh Jackman reprises the role of the mutant hero, Logan, and this time he's taken his adamantium talents to Japan. Surrounded by ninjas, samurais and evil baddies on the prowl, the reviews on the film are mixed at best. Some thought that this picture was half superhero extravaganza and half commercial for the latest ab machine.
Truthfully, the film could have been worse. If you saw 2009's crapfest, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Jackman was horrendously misused in a project that didn't show a thorough knowledge of the subject or or the universe. But under Mangold's direction, The Wolverine proves to still have the X factor.
Buoyed by an emotional tale (Wolvie loses his powers), a host of crazy characters (Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, Will Yun Lee) and thrilling action set pieces, The Wolverine is one superhero movie that stays true to the comics while keeping cinephiles entertained.
