People started paying attention to the pseudo-emo rapper from San Jose named Antwon when he came out with one of the best videos of last year – “Living Every Dream." Sampling the classic “Tom’s Diner” might have helped, but Antwon’s eccentric and on-point raps are what catapulted his exposure, eventually signing with Greedhead Records, the independent record label headed by Himanshu (A.K.A. Heems of the now defunct Das Racist). Last year’s End Of Earth was one of 2012’s best projects, and his latest release, Dark Denim, is a concise window into a mélange of feelings, enlisting noise rap stalwarts Cities Aviv and B L A C K I E to spit dark sex raps over. Some people even hear shades of Antwon’s recent music in Yeezus.
