3. R&B remained dominant.
It might be hard to top R&B in 2012, when Frank Ocean’s beautiful Channel Orange made a splash and Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream shimmied up the charts, but 2013 certainly didn’t disappoint either.
The Weeknd dropped his proper debut, Kiss Land, to warm reviews, Justin Timberlake dropped not one, but TWO platinum albums, Mack Wilds proved that crooning could still be grimey with his New York City: A Love Story album, and Jhene Aiko is working magic with her new record, Sail Out. R&B is also shifting its shape as indie musicians like inc. and Toro Y Moi put their own twist on the genre, and it only means a larger proliferation of beautiful music.
