"End of Watch"
The streets are deadlier than ever in “End of Watch,” the new film from “Street Kings” director/”Training Day” writer David Ayer. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena play brothers in arms with badges that are targeted by LA’s deadliest gang after a routine traffic stop goes awry. Ayer’s genuine aesthetic and dialogue has resulted in some of the best crime thrillers in recent years, and the filmmaker assembled a pretty fantastic cast for his third directorial effort. Consider us amped.

"Looper"
Time travel. Gunfights. Double Crosses. All that and more in this sci-fi actioner starring Bruce Willis as an aging assassin sent back in time to survive a hit at the hands of a younger version of himself, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Director Rian Johnson was responsible for one of the most original neo-noir thrillers of the last decade (“Brick”), and "Looper" re-teams him with his now A-list star JGL. We’re in.

"Frankenweenie"
Whenever Tim Burton lines up a stop-motion animation project, audiences take note. After all, this is the man who helped bring the medium into the mainstream with the classic “A Nightmare Before Christmas.” With “Frankenweenie,” he revisits his original, barely seen short film about a boy and his (resuscitated) dog. Burton put a lot of heart and soul into this one (trust us), so we’re expecting a return to form for the “Dark Shadows” director.

"Taken 2"
Liam Neeson steps back into the role of Bryan Mills – a man with a very particular set of skills – to fight back against the father of the man he killed while rescuing his daughter in the explosive 2009 original. We kinda liked the first film, but didn’t think a sequel was necessary. That said, watching Neeson kick all kinds of ass is a perfectly suitable way to spend two hours.

"Alex Cross"
Madea, who? Tyler Perry ditches the drag – and the director’s chair – for this franchise reboot about a federal agent hunting a vicious serial killer. Morgan Freeman played the character 15 and 11 years ago in “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider,” respectively, so Perry has some big shoes to fill.

"Paranormal Activity 4"
The found-footage phenomenon continues with the next installment in what is quickly becoming Paramount Pictures most reliable moneymaking series. Hi-definition shaky-cam shenanigans abound, for sure.

"Silent Hill: Revelation 3D"
Six years after the original film freaked out moviegoers, fans can finally return to Silent Hill. Starring Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Carrie-Anne Moss and a bunch of creepy, contorted creatures, this will perhaps be the best bet for a real scare this Halloween.

“The Matrix” directors Andy and Lana Wachowski (...and "Run Lola Run" helmer Tom Tykwer) return with this triumphant adaptation of David Mitchell’s sprawling sci-fi novel. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Keith David, Hugo Weaving and many more play multiple parts in this interconnected epic that spans all of space and time. We are geeking out for this one.
