Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama
Nominees: Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Robert Redford (All Is Lost)
Predictions: There's some pretty strong competition in this category, as everyone has had a major breakthrough one way or another. The range and breadth of the pictures, alone, carry a special distinction amongst this Best Actors class. Elba as Mandela is hailed as one of his best performances; Redford and McConaughey paint a picture of mortality in some captivating ways; and Tom Hanks relives one of history's great stories.
But there can only be one.
12 Years a Slave is a moving piece of art and lead by an actor, who we think is criminally slept-on. Chiwetel Ejiofor will be celebrated for his performance.
