When Beyoncé’s gender-reversed song debuted in 2008, it was an instant hit, from the guitar strums to her emotionally charged voice. But the original writer BC Jean called out Queen Bey when she started hearing the melody on the news. It was reported that BC received a $250,000 settlement for the tune, but the song was never copyrighted.
