5 Artists We Hope Are On D'Angelo's New Album

5 Artists We Hope Are On D'Angelo's New Album

Christopher Harris Posted January 22, 2013
In a recent interview with Billboard, ?uestlove revealed that D'Angelo is 99% done recording his third album. (!) Sure, the reclusive soul singer fooled us once (and maybe twice and thrice), but if you're like us, the idea of Mr. Brown Sugar completing his anticipated comeback project has you on edge.

Check out 5 artists we hope make it onto James River.

Lauryn Hill

L. Boogie is another artist who's taken an elongated break from crafting studio magic.
Since the pair worked together on Lauryn's Miseducation album (the super sultry "Nothing Even Matters"), a second duet would definitely matter (see what we did there?) to both of their fans.

Erykah Badu

Fun fact: Ms. Badu and D'Angelo were both members of the gifted collective, The Soulquarians. Motown was able to link the two for a rendition of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terell's "Your Precious Love" and they nailed it. Too much soul for one track? Hardly. Two's better than one.

Marsha Ambrosius

Quiet as kept, the Floetry songstress has become a star in a genre D'Angelo helped create and both have made a significant impact on neo soul.

Nas

Remember "Devil's Pie"? D recorded that song for Nas' fascinatingly atrocious 1998 film, Belly. They've yet to record together, but they both know what it's like to experience love lost with an industry chick.

Prince

When D'Angelo broke onto the scene at 26, the Prince comparisons came down like purple rain. Each of these idols are capable of playing multiple instruments and producing gold out of nothing. The legendary performer is also one of D's idols, and he's been rumored to appear on the album since 2009.
