5 Artists Who Should Perform At Next Year's Super Bowl Halftime Show

Chris Yuscavage Posted February 5, 2013
Are you still riding high off the performance that Beyonce put on during her halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday? Of course you are. Even though it's been about two days now since the performance, Bey killed it and shut down the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with her performance. It was one of the best Super Bowl performances we've seen in recent years.

You know what we're even more excited about, though? Next year! We still have about 360 more days until Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, but we're excited because Beyonce finally showed the Super Bowl committee that they can stop picking "safe" (read: OLD!) acts for the Super Bowl halftime show in the wake of 2004's infamous "Nipplegate." They can pick young, exciting, energetic acts to take the Super Bowl stage—and not fear the FCC when they do it!

With that in mind—and with Beyonce's performance still fresh on our minds—we decided to throw together a list of the 5 Artists Who Should Be Asked To Perform At Next Year's Super Bowl Halftime Show. Which of these acts would you like to see at Super Bowl XLVIII? Click through the list and then let us know.
Artist: Rihanna
Why We Would Like To See Her Perform At Super Bowl XLVIII: At this point in her career, Rih-Rih has hits on hits on hits. Seriously, if you ever go to a Rihanna concert, you'll walk out and realize that she didn't even get the chance to do all of her songs that have reached the top of the charts. She has that many hit records. So, it's actually kind of crazy that she hasn't done a Super Bowl yet. We know that she might scare some of the Super Bowl organizers with her performances. But, if you want to entertain people at the Super Bowl—and keep the players happy—you can't go wrong with Rihanna.
Artist: Justin Timberlake
Why We Would Like To See Him Perform At Super Bowl XLVIII: At this time next year, we expect that JT will be flying off of all the success that his new album, The 20/20 Experience, is going bring him. He'll probably be up for a boatload of Grammy Awards, and he'll have a slew of new hit singles at his disposal. So, a Super Bowl appearance would be icing on the cake. Plus, it'd give him the chance to make up for the "Nipplegate" debacle that he was a part of in 2004.
Artist: Chris Brown
Why We Would Like To See Him Perform At Super Bowl XLVIII: Like Rihanna, Chris Brown's catalog is simply undeniable. He has more hit songs than he could perform in an eight-minute Super Bowl show, so he'd have plenty of material to choose from. And, his dance routines would really help energize the freezing-cold crowd that's going to be gathered at MetLife Stadium. So, we hope the Super Bowl organizers aren't scared off by Breezy's past. He should be a strong candidate for the Super Bowl halftime show next year.
Artist: Nicki Minaj
Why We Would Like To See Her Perform At Super Bowl XLVIII: Nicki is no stranger to the Super Bowl stage. She was all over it last year when she performed alongside Madonna. But, we think it's about time for her to get a crack at doing the show her way. Aside from performing her hit singles, she would be the perfect person to help guys like Drake and Lil Wayne get onto the stage without turning the Super Bowl into a full-fledged rap concert. At that point, the American Idol judge could be back for a second season in 2014, too, so she would definitely have a big enough name to anchor the halftime show.
Artist: Jay-Z
Why We Would Like To See Him Perform At Super Bowl XLVIII: C'mon, you didn't think we would do a list of performers who should take part in a New York-based Super Bowl and not mention Hov, did you?! Shame on you. Now that Beyonce did her thing, it's only right for her hubby to get a shot at the Super Bowl stage. Out of all the artists listed here, this is the one we'd like to see most at Super Bowl XLVIII. This would end up being one of the shining moments of Jay-Z's career.
