2. The vulnerability of “Throwback”
The beauty of Confessions lies here: Usher’s ability to communicate a man’s version of vulnerability. In lieu of hubris, this Just Blaze creation unpacks a poetic apology through reflection: “You never miss a good thing till it leaves you/Finally, I realize that I need you.” It’s the type of bare-knuckle prose (almost) every man hates to say and (almost) every woman wants to hear. When coupled with Dionne Warwick’s soulful cries (“You’re gonna need me one day”), it’s the perfect relationship eulogy.
