Get It, Ya Bish! 5 Co-Stars We Want On Kendrick Lamar's Next Film

VIBE Pop Culture Posted November 14, 2012
At this very moment, somewhere Kendrick Lamar's "good kid, m.A.A.d city" is blaring out of a speaker. Comparisons and critiques aside, the Compton MC has fulfilled his goals and made it relevant to be creative within Hip-Hop again. Lyricist of the Year. Check. Putting his life in these twelve songs, Kendrick Lamar has shut up dissenters ('cept for Shyne; c'mon man!) and led the charge of real rap returning to the radio.

All of this got us to thinking, while we jam out to "Money Trees" — who could star in K. Dot's sequel? Being realistic, we know Kendrick isn't going to drop another album until after his Top Dawg Entertainment comrades release their solo projects. But one can dream, no? With that in mind, we mused 5 Co-Stars We Want On Kendrick Lamar's Next Film, which you can check out in our gallery above!

Little Dragon's Yukimi Nagano —

While Anna Wise was able to illustrate vocally how real Kendrick Lamar is, Little Dragon's Yukimi Nagano can take it a step further. Pairing these two malleable voices in the studio for some hot sauce Ramen and late night rhyming would be music to audiophiles ears. The "Wildfire" songstress is no stranger to Hip-Hop and its ever-changing, colorful world. But put her alongside K. Dot and together they could be the ones to up the ante when it comes to concept albums.

Eminem —

Top Dawg Entertainment made waves in the music industry when it partnered itself alongside Dr. Dre's Aftermath—so why not reap the benefits? After literally taking listeners on a ride through "m.A.A.d. city," Kendrick proved that he is more than capable to hold his own against the true legends of rap. Fans even know just how voracious of an appetite K. Dot has when it comes to murdering a track (see: "Rigamortis"). So, by adding one of the greatest to ever do it on a cut for his next film would make Hip-Hop fans feel like the game is in good hands.

Scarface —

Two storytellers both with one thing in common: an affinity for detail. The respect for Mr. Scarface is apparent (check K. Dot's first verse in "The Heart Pt. 3") and we all know that 'Face only gets down with the real—so this bit of casting is a 'no brainer'. What type of story could these two concoct? Our guess is anything from a macabre gangster-thriller to an introspective conversation of all that "Tupac Reincarnated" talk that follows the Compton MC around nowadays.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below!

Black Hippy —

Quite a few hardcore fans were disappointed that a Black Hippy cut didn't make the primary tracklist. "The Heart Pt. 3" did a lot to quell commotion from the haters, but on the next album seeing the Funky Foursome is a must for any fans of the group. Much like Marvel's Phase Two initiative, Top Dawg plans to roll out solo efforts from Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock. But when it gets back time around for K. Dot to drop his next batch of cinematic music, our casting couch choice is to have Black Hippy as co-stars!

DMX —

What would happen if Kendrick's inner voices had to deal with Damien's attempts at corrupting his soul? Compton's good kid name-checked Dark Man X's debut album as an heavy influence in his style after performing at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Cafe ("The Heart Pt. 3). Both are no strangers to creating captivating characters that cause commotion, and on K. Dot's next film, this duo could redefine rhyming-storytelling for the next generation. Merging their two worlds into one for optimum sonic satisfaction could finally close the gates for weak rappers trying to co-opt the original creativist style rap has been known for for generations.

Let us know in the comments who you'd want to see as co-stars on Kendrick Lamar's next album?
