The 5 Most Surprising 2013 Grammy Award Nominations
Late last week, we wrote about five artists who got snubbed by the Grammy committee this year. From Justin Bieber to Lady Gaga, the list included a handful of artists who were shut out completely by the Grammy committee this year for no apparent reason. We're still a little surprised to see that none of them were nominated for an award in 2013.
But, that's not the only thing we were surprised about when the nominees for the 2013 Grammy Awards were announced last month. We were also surprised to see a few of the artists who were nominated for awards. It was a good surprise, no doubt. But, there were a few artists who we surely thought were going to get overlooked this year. So, we put together a list of The 5 Most Surprising 2013 Grammy Award Nominations. Did any of these nominees surprise you as much as they surprised us?

The Artist: 2 Chainz
The Nomination: Based On A T.R.U. Story for "Best Rap Album"
Why It Surprised Us: While 2 Chainz had a HUGE year in rap, he's still not the most commercially viable MC in the world. So, we wouldn't have blinked if the Grammy voters had left him off the "Best Rap Album" list. But, to their credit, they gave Tity Boi props for making his solo debut this year. And, we were definitely surprised about it.

The Artist: Young Jeezy
The Nomination: "I Do," feat. Jay-Z and Andre 3000 for "Best Rap Performance"
Why It Surprised Us: The four other songs in the "Best Rap Performance" category (Drake's "HYFR," Jay-Z and Kanye West's "N----s In Paris," Nas's "Daughters," and Kanye West's "Mercy") were all really, really big radio records. "I Do" wasn't and, yet, the Grammy voters apparently understood the impact of it and felt it was strong enough to warrant a Grammy nod.

The Artist: Tyrese
The Nomination: Open Invitation for "Best R&B Album"
Why It Surprised Us: Does anyone even remember when this album came out? We didn't. And, that's not a knock on Tyrese. It's just that this album came out all the way back in November 2011, which is basically a decade ago in the music world. Good for Tyrese, though. Say what you want about him but he's been putting in work for years now and deserves some recognition for it.

The Artist: Miguel
The Nomination: "Adorn" for "Song of the Year"
Why It Surprised Us: "Adorn" most definitely deserved a "Song of the Year" nod. But, did anyone really think it was going to get it? So often, a song like "Adorn" gets overlooked at the Grammy Awards. But, the Grammys included it, and we're so glad they did. Miguel now has a pretty strong chance to take home this award.

The Artist: Frank Ocean
The Nomination: "Thinkin Bout You" for "Record of the Year" and Channel Orange for "Album of the Year"
Why It Surprised Us: We weren't surprised to see Frank Ocean get a few Grammy nominations. But, we were surprised to see that he captured nods in some of the most prominent Grammy categories, like "Record of the Year" and "Album of the Year." It's a huge honor and one that Mr. Ocean should enjoy this year. Moments like this only come along once in a lifetime. So, we hope he makes the most of his time in the spotlight.
