5 Rap Albums That Should Have Been Nominated For "Best Rap Album" At The 2013 Grammy Awards

5 Rap Albums That Should Have Been Nominated For "Best Rap Album" At The 2013 Grammy Awards

VIBE Posted January 15, 2013
Nicki Minaj isn't the only rapper who got snubbed by the Grammy organizers this year. Although it is sort of strange that she of all people didn't receive a single Grammy nomination for the 2013 Grammy Awards—in case you missed it, we wondered why that might be yesterday—there are several other rappers who have a legitimate beef with the Grammy organizers as well. Like Nicki, there's no reason why their projects shouldn't have been nominated for the Grammy Awards this year.

We understand that not everyone can be nominated for the Grammy Awards and that there are only so many Grammy nominations to go around. But, we do wish that the Grammy organizers would have given the following rap albums a second look (and listen!) when it came time to nominate projects for the "Best Rap Album" award. These are the 5 Rap Albums That Should Have Been Nominated For "Best Rap Album" At The 2013 Grammy Awards. Which album do you feel would have been a strong contender for the "Best Rap Album" crown?
The Album: Cruel Summer, by G.O.O.D. Music

Why It Should Have Been Nominated: Was Cruel Summer the best project that Kanye West has ever put out? Not by a longshot. But, it did spawn several of the best singles of 2012 and solidified the G.O.O.D. family as a force to be reckoned with. So, we wish the Grammy organizers would have shown it a little bit more love than they did this year.
The Album: R.A.P. Music, by Killer Mike

Why It Should Have Been Nominated: For the title of the album alone, this should have gotten more consideration. Killer Mike's sixth solo album, which was produced entirely by El-P, was overlooked by the mainstream, but it received nothing by rave reviews from critics when it was released last spring.
The Album: Live From The Underground, by Big K.R.I.T.

Why It Should Have Been Nominated: Was K.R.I.T.'s first official album better than his previous mixtapes? Not really. But, it was still a solid album that should have received more love than it got. A Grammy nod would have forced a whole lot of people out there to go back and take another look at what K.R.I.T. is bringing to the game.
The Album: Pluto, by Future

Why It Should Have Been Nominated: We know, we know. We're not sure this would have belonged in the "Best Rap Album" category, either. But, it's hard to deny the impact that Future had on the rap game this year. So, it would have been nice to see the Grammys acknowledge it.
The Album: Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, by Nicki Minaj

Why It Should Have Been Nominated: Although you could make the argument that this album doesn't really fall into the "rap" category, there was definitely a whole lot of rapping going on during Nicki's sophomore set. And, when she did rap, like on "Beez in the Trap" and "I Am Your Leader," she did it well.
