5 Rappers Chief Keef Should Not Follow
News broke yesterday that rap sensation Chief Keef would be spending two months in juvenile detention center for violating his probation. How will this affect his rap career? It’s too early to call it donezo for Keef but legal issues have stalled some of rap’s most promising stars in the past and cut short otherwise upward careers.

Shyne
When Shyne burst onto the scene in the late 90s, he was lauded as Bad Boy Records’ new rising star. His gangster cred and deep voice (which eerily sounded like the late Notorious B.I.G.) seemed the perfect fit for rap’s next superstar. All of this was sidelined when Shyne received 10 years in prison for his involvement in the 1999 Club New York shooting in which three people were injured. He was sentenced in 2001 and released in 2009 and although he’s tried to remain musically active, it was never quite the same.
C-Murder
Like his rap handle states, C-Murder has been convicted of murder..twic
Lil’ Boosie
Boosie had barely put out two albums before being sentenced to major time for ordering a 2009 murder and later, drug charges for bringing drugs into prison with the intent to distribute. The rapper was acquitted of the murder charge in 2012, but is currently behind bars serving an eight-year bid for the drug conviction.
Gucci Mane
There was a time it seemed that Gucci Mane had a second home behind bars. Just as his mainstream buzz was growing, Gucci had several stints in and out of jail stemming from a 2005 aggravated assault case including when he pushed a woman out of his Hummer in January 2011. Not so icey.
Remy Ma
Remy Ma shined as the Terror Squad’s only female rapper and snagged a Grammy nomination for “Lean Back” but her promising career was shut down after being convicted of shooting a woman in the stomach for allegedly owing her “thousands of dollars.” While in the slammer, Remy married fellow rapper Papoose. She’s expected to come home in 2015.
