Reason 1: Nicki hasn't completely sold out and gone pop.
Oh, we were worried about this. And we're sure you were, too. After an artist puts out a successful debut, he or she usually tries to recreate that success by working with a bunch of big-name artists and producers. And, as a result, they usually suffer from the dreaded sophomore slump because everything that they record sounds forced. That's not the case here. In fact, you could make the argument that Nicki is eschewing her mainstream success by trying to create something that sounds like a polished version of some of the songs that appeared on her early mixtapes. We don't expect everything on Roman Reloaded to sound like this. But we're glad that Nicki hasn't forgotten where she came from and what made us love her in the first place.
