5 Reasons We're Glad LL Cool J Is Hosting The Grammy Awards Again

5 Reasons We're Glad LL Cool J Is Hosting The Grammy Awards Again

VIBE Posted January 3, 2013
Don't call it a comeback! But, for the second straight year, LL Cool J will be hosting the Grammy Awards this year. And, we're really, really glad that he is. Now that Kanye West is saying that he might boycott the 2013 Grammy Awards because he's upset that a few of his recent projects have been overlooked by Grammy voters, we're happy that at least one rapper will definitely be in the house on February 10 when the Grammy proceedings kick off. But, that's not the only reason that we're glad to see Todd Smith return to the Grammys stage this year. Here are the 5 Reasons We're Glad LL Cool J Is Hosting The Grammy Awards Again. Are you glad to see him back again, too?
Reason #1: LL did a nice job at last year's awards.

LL didn't have an easy job last year. It was the first time in almost a decade that the Grammy Awards had a host, so he really had to help build a blueprint for what a Grammys host should be doing in 2012. And, while some people out there complained that LL was a bit boring, we thought he did a nice job in helping introduce all of the presenters and performers during the show.
Reason #2: LL's presence is a good thing for hip-hop.

Although things have gotten better in recent years, rappers have never gotten a lot of love at the Grammys. So, seeing LL host them was a big step forward for hip-hop in general. Not only do rappers have their own categories now, but they're also starting to land coveted nominations in categories like "Album of the Year" and "Song of the Year." Couple that with the fact that a rapper just hosted the Grammys and it's a great look for all of the rappers out there.
Reason #3: LL makes us want to watch the Grammys for more than just the performances and the acceptance speeches.

Everyone tunes into the Grammy Awards to see people perform and to watch their acceptance speeches. But, now, we have another reason to tune in. All eyes are on LL and how he'll do as the host of the Grammys. And, that's a great thing.
Reason #4: LL gets to enjoy the fruits of his labor by being the Grammys host.

A lot of hip-hop legends don't really get the respect that they deserve once they're past their prime. Sure, they might be honored at, say, the BET Hip-Hop Awards or something like that. But, they don't get a whole lot of validation at this point in their career. By hosting the Grammys, LL is able to keep himself relevant and enjoy his status as one of the greatest rappers to ever pick up a microphone.
Reason #5: LL's success opens the door for other rappers to host the Grammys in the future.

Will LL Cool J be the last rapper to host the Grammys? We doubt it. Who knows? One day, we might see someone like Ludacris up there hosting the Grammy Awards. And, it will all be because of the success that LL enjoyed as a host. As long as LL is hosting, hip-hop has a place on stage at the Grammys. So, we're glad to see him hosting again.
