5 Reasons Why J. Cole Should Respond to Diggy Simmons' Diss
While rap beefs are a staple in hip-hop culture, the unexpected competitors keep the game interesting. On April Fool’s Day, Diggy Simmons released a no-joke diss record, “What You Say To Me” targeted towards J. Cole for his suggestive comments about the 17-year-old emcee’s older sis Vanessa. Here are five reasons why a Cole response is not just appropriate, but necessary.
1) Regardless of J. Cole’s seemingly flawless flow, his MC manhood is at stake. Now that Diggy has fired his shots, Cole needs to solidify his status and evade the shadows of being Jay-Z’s golden boy. No more Mr. Nice Guy and farewell Mr. Nice Watch.
All’s fair in beef and hip-hop until it gets personal. While Cole’s remarks on “Purple Rain” suggest some intimacy with Vanessa, Diggy calls him out on his bluff to defend big sis. This presents an opportunity for Cole to set the record straight.
Just because fame and hip-hop runs in the Simmons family, carrying Rev Run’s genes is no EZ pass to success. If Diggy didn’t need daddy’s permission to make this diss, then Cole is at liberty to son him.
