With the phonetic spelling of NYC--pronounced En-Nee-Chay-- this lifestyle brand made its name in the hip-hop retail market in 1996 under the direction of Evan Davis, Tony Shellman and Lando Felix as a less ostentatious version of the era’s popular on-trend streetwear. Liz Clairborne Incorporated’s menswear president Karen Murray saw a golden opportunity to capitalize off those urban dollars and acquired Enyce Holding LLC for $114 million in 2003. A slap in the face came when Diddy copped the brand from Liz Claiborne for a measly $20 million. As they say, all good things eventually fall flat. But Enyce is practically dying for Drake to resuscitate it.
