New York’s raverati scene was found at Gotham Hall last week to witness a surprise performance headlined by EDM’s glitterati duo Empire of the Sun as part of MTV Iggy and Intel’s ‘Music Experiment 2.0'.
Always dressed to ‘empress’, the group’s lead singer Luke Steele stunned fans with his iconic headpieces, studded suits and Aboriginal-inspired face paint. Ironically, the event’s crowds were just as festive as the singer they came to see, with patrons donning their own creative collections of feather headdresses, body/face designs and masquerade masks.
The colorful crowd experienced non-stop action the entire performance as Luke was flanked by costumed performers while he sang such EotS hits as “Alive” and “Walking On A Dream”. The end result was a cross between a glam-rock concert and underground rave, with Luke even smashing his guitar at the conclusion of a song. After the last number was played and Luke made his exit below the stage fog, fans screamed and sang for an encore only to be greeted by an auto-tuned message: “Thank you earthlings. Now please return to your spaceships.”
