The Five Ugliest Hip-Hop Radio Beefs NYC Has Ever Seen

Posted March 30, 2012
It’s always entertainment when DJs get into some beef. The latest Flex and Clue confrontation sparked by Nicki Minaj/2 Chainz’s collab “Beez in the Trap” is prime example. (“Don’t you ever never ever talk about cars ever again. You are in the Bima 6 wagon, you crumb!”) But things aren’t so funny once they get taken off air, and that’s what happened in a majority of the following NYC radio spats. VIBE counts down some of the craziest radio beefs to go down in the dirty Big Apple. –Stephanie Long
Hot 97’s Angie Martinez wasn’t too happy when coworker Wendy supposedly aired out Martinez’s relationship with Q-Tip back in 1998. The two reportedly got into an all-out cat fight, and Wendy was sent packing from the radio station.
Once upon a time, just years ago, Clue called into Slay’s radio show to confront him about some rumors. What ensued was 10 minutes of classic radio beef and epic disses that are still remembered today. (“Yo, Clue, you can’t do nothin’ TO me! You couldn’t even handle my little brother!”)
When it comes to Wendy Williams, you better watch what you say – at least that’s what Miss Jones learned after talking smack about the personality. Soon after the incident, one of Williams' employees filed a lawsuit. The suit claimed Williams’ husband was so angry about Jones’ comments that he sought to hire a hitman to wipe her out. Yikes.
Miss Jones received fire from coworker Miss Info in 2004 after playing “USA for Indonesia” just a month after the Indian Ocean tsunami. The song, a parody of “We Are The World,” had a hook that went: “Go find your mommy, I just saw her float by,” and joked about kids being sold into child slavery. Miss Info, outraged by the song, protested against it being played on the radio. But Miss Jones had different feelings toward the situation, and went on a rant about Miss Info not being a team player. Subsequently, Miss Jones was fired for her wrongdoing.
Things got ugly in 2002 after Flex was accused of attacking Power 105’s Steph Lova. According to reports, the attack stemmed from allegations made during a Nas interview with Steph Lova in which the rapper claimed Flex had been taking payola. In the end, Flex pleaded guilty to harassment, and was also ordered to stay away from the Power 105 DJ.
